The Dutch bulb region
The southern part of the Dutch bulb fields surround our hotel in Sassenheim, reaching from Leiden to Haarlem. While touring the area through a sea of colourful bulb fields, take time to visit the picturesque towns of Warmond, Noordwijkerhout, Lisse and Hillegom.
At this time of year you will find many roadside stalls selling freshly picked flowers; why not stop and buy yourself a bunch of tulips? Don’t leave the Dutch bulb fields without visiting the Keukenhof in Lisse.
It is the international crowd-puller from 20 March to 18 May 2014! Flower lovers from around the world come to admire the incredible diversity of flowering bulbs. Van der Valk Hotel Sassenheim has put together a Keukenhof Package especially for this highlight of the year so that you can relax in the comfort of our hotel after a breath-taking day among the flowers.
Bulbs and dunes
To the west, the Dutch bulb fields give way to the dunes of the North Sea where there are plenty of delightful opportunities for walking and cycling. Staff at our hotel’s reception will be delighted to give you tips, routes and inform you about cycle hire. The Noordwijk Noordduinen, for example, would make a glorious trip, with its vast dunes and winding cycle paths. Apart from the Keukenhof, the area around the Dutch bulb fields has a range of other events such as the Kaagweek sailing competitions, the 3 October Festival commemorating the siege of Leiden and the Christmas Fair at Keukenhof Castle.
