Museum De Zwarte Tulp | Lisse
Museum de Zwarte Tulp is a special museum about the flower bulb culture and takes you on a journey through the richly varied history of the flower bulb culture: the centuries-old history, working on the land with its seasonal rhythm, scientific research, export and tourist promotion. The museum also shows how artists have been - and still are - inspired by bulbous plants over the centuries to produce work of exceptional beauty.
The museum was founded in 1985 and is housed in a building in the centre of Lisse that once served as a bulb shed. Parts of the museum include the early 20th-century boardrooms of Kalkzandsteenfabriek Van Herwaarden BV, called the Comparitie, and the museum garden where a variety of bulbous plants bloom in season. There is also a museum shop and there is also the opportunity to drink coffee, tea or soft drinks.
