History

It all began in 1939, when Martien and Rie van der Valk opened a restaurant in Voorschoten. With a lot of hard work and a hospitable and homely approach, their business became a success.

In the years after the Second World War, they built a number of restaurants with their 11 children. The business has since been expanded by their grandchildren and great-grandchildren and is now one of the largest catering concerns in the Netherlands, with its 56 establishments here, and a further 25 hotels in countries around the globe.

Martien and Rie’s vision of hospitality remains the backbone of Van der Valk’s success today. Their attitude and entrepreneurial spirit is still an example to younger generations.
