The Teylingen castle ruin is a large circular water castle rising above the flat landscape. Originally it consisted of a ring wall; the donjon was added in the 13th century. Next to the main building, there was an extensive outer bailey, surrounded by a moat, where a comfortable and luxurious house was built in the 14th century.

Historic monument

The Teylingen castle ruin, located in Voorhout, dates back to the 13th century and was originally a hunting lodge. It played an important role in the history of the Holland nobility, particularly the powerful Van Brederode family. Although largely in ruins, the remains offer an impressive view of the architecture and strategic importance of the castle in the past.
