The Hague
The Hague
Shopping
Some places you keep in your heart forever. The Hague is one of them: the best of both worlds. A city of peace and justice. Of city and beach. Of new styles and old masters. Of shops and palaces. Of exotic cuisine and Dutch fishing harbors. There is plenty to experience in this diverse city! And all just a stone’s throw from Van der Valk Hotel Sassenheim - Leiden.
Shopping
For a day of shopping, the city center of The Hague is the place to be. Famous department stores and major retail chains are within walking distance of trendy fashion boutiques and concept stores. Exclusive local shops can be found in the Hofkwartier, Noordeinde, and on Denneweg. A fun spot to visit is the renovated Foodhallen in the Haagse Bluf shopping court, featuring twelve food stands and two bars. Looking for bargains? Be sure to visit the Haagse Markt, the largest multicultural open-air market in Europe, open on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
Most stores in the city center are open from 10:00 to 18:00, but department stores such as Bijenkorf and Primark have longer opening hours. Thursday is shopping evening in the city center, and most stores are also open on shopping Sundays.
Museums
The Hague has many interesting museums, including the Mauritshuis, where you can see the Girl with a Pearl Earring, and the Gemeentehuis Den Haag. Many museums in The Hague offer guided tours, scavenger hunts, and activities for children. Other fun places to visit are the Museon, Omniversum, Madurodam, and the stunning underwater world at Sea Life in Scheveningen.
