Bollenstreek

Have you always wanted to take a look at a flower bulb nursery, a bulb export company or a perennial plant nursery? Or ask growers about the secrets of the trade? It is all possible during the annual agricultural open day 'Bollenstreek in Bedrijf'. Step into the world of horticulture and get to know the entrepreneurs, the sector and the products from the region!

During the open day, various agricultural companies - located next to each other - open their doors to the public. They will show who they are, what the company looks like and what work is done behind their doors and on the land. There are also extra activities at many farms, such as: a bee keeper, the agricultural nature and landscape association, the Rhineland Water Board and local cultural-historical associations. A little train will be running between the farms, which you can hop on and off.

The entrepreneurs will introduce you to the world of horticulture in the Bollenstreek and will tell you everything you want to know about the cultivation and processing of bulbs, flowers and perennials.

At each company, you will find an extra activity related to nature and landscape. The Rijnland Water Board will explain about water management and water quality in the bulb-growing area. The Geestgrond Agricultural Nature and Landscape Association will be showing its agricultural nature management projects. At the Historische kring Voorhout and Museum De Zwarte Tulp, you can learn everything about the history of Voorhout and its bulb culture. The bulb heritage working group of the Dune and Flowerbulb Region Cultural and Historical Society will provide information about bulb conservation. A beekeeper will display his hive and explain about beekeeping and honey making.

There is also plenty for children to see and do at the companies. A train will be running along the three-kilometre route, where you can hop on and off. In this way, the open day is fun and educational for young and old.
